Almond
was conceived of as a traditional bistro, a casual
neighborhood place where you are sure to be recognized
on your second time in. In days past the French
bistro served as an extension of the family living
room, a place where rustic, earthy fare made of
local and seasonal ingredients could be enjoyed
in a relaxed familial environment - this was the
idea behind Almond.
This concept is embodied
in the way the restaurant functions on every level.
Eric Lemonides greets everyone at the door with
the spirit of libertrté, egalité and
fraternité and is sure to be by the table
with wine bottle in hand while Jason is in the kitchen
preparing the lusty peasant dishes for that night’s
dinner.
Historically the Hamptons
have been the domain of farmers and fisherman. Although
much has changed, the area is still dotted with
open fields of corn, potatoes and tomatoes. Bayman
still ply their trade and beautiful vineyards that
rival the Napa Valley have matured. Almond considers
itself part of this proud tradition. During harvest
season and when the seas are calm the restaurant
relies almost exclusively on local sources of produce
and seafood and has many local wineries on its wine
list. This reflects both Jason and Eric’s
desire to fully encompass the bistro philosophy.
Jason and Eric
trust the country charm and Parisian influence appeal
to both locals and city folk alike. The food and
décor combine rustic appeal with an urbane
touch to satisfy just about everyone – families
or couples, hipsters or button-down types, contractors
or celebrities, and anyone in between. It is chic
and stylish, but utterly without attitude.
